The CSF College Football Top25

Chris Schisler

These rankings are the opinions of Chris Schisler heading into week 9. The rankings are calculated from 4 components:
1.) Overall Record 2.) Strength of Schedule 3.) Signature Wins
4.) The Eye Test

Here is our second installment of the College Football Rankings:

1.) Mississippi State Bulldogs
2.) Ole Miss Rebels
3.) Alabama Crimson Tide
4.) Auburn Tigers
5.) Florida State Seminoles
6.) Oregon Ducks
7.) Georgia Bulldogs
8.) Michigan State Spartans
9.) Ohio State Buckeyes
10.) Baylor Bears
11.) TCU Horned Frogs
12.) Arizona State Sun Devils
13.) West Virginia Mountaineers
14.) Kansas State Wildcats
15.) Nebraska Cornhuskers
16.) Notre Dame Fighting Irish
17.) Arizona Wildcats
18.) East Carolina Pirates
19.) Oklahoma Sooners
20.) Utah Utes
21.) USC Trojans
22.) UCLA Bruins
23.) Marshall Herd
24.) LSU Tigers
25.) Maryland Terrapins

We can not judge Florida State on last year’s accomplishments. They have not played like a top 4 team. They are fairly 5th in the rankings. The SEC West has the top 4 spots because they are the 4 best teams. Mississippi State is a world beater this season. Ole’ Miss is arguably the most complete team in the country. Alabama just whipped Texas A&M. Alabama’s only loss was to Ole’ Miss, in an instant classic ball game. Auburn looks great and their only loss came to Mississippi State. We cannot give Florida State a pass for their easy ACC schedule. We cannot give Oregon a pass just to include the Pac-12 in the playoff.

West Virginia is at 13, which may surprise you. They just beat Baylor, the number 4 team in the country. They dominated Bryce Petty’s offense in the fourth quarter. If that does not open your eyes how about going toe to toe with Alabama and almost winning? Clint Trickett is on fire, Kevin White is a superstar and the defense is getting better weekly. They have plenty of strength of schedule remaining, so they’ll either prove me right or wrong.

Maryland being in the top 25? You heard that right; at least in my rankings. Maryland lost to WVU on a last second field goal. They lost to Ohio State handily. This team however has 5 quality wins, including Iowa and Indiana. The Terps defensive front is phenomenal and the secondary has a knack for turnovers. They have arguably the best receiving group in the country.
