The Top 5 Joe Flacco Moments
In 6 years as a starting quarterback Joe Flacco has led the Ravens to a 62-34 record, according to pro-football-reference.com. In his first 5 seasons he won at least won playoff game. In his 5th season, Flacco was named the Super Bowl MVP as the Ravens beat the 49ers 34-31. Needless to say, there have been some great moments. Here are the top 5 moments for number 5:
5.) His First Touchdown:
It was week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008. In Joe Flacco’s first regular season game as a Raven he started it off with a win. Flacco’s first touchdown was truly unique. Off what was to be a bootleg pass, Flacco ran an unlikely 37 yards for a touchdown.
4.) 2008 Divisional Playoff Game:
In just Joe Flacco’s second playoff game, he showed the Ravens faithful how tough he can be. In one of the most physical defensive standoffs in playoff history, Flacco was unshakable. He made several huge plays in the 13-10 victory. The Ravens only touchdown in the game came from a Flacco bomb to Derrick Mason down the sideline. To this day I still believe it was one of the greatest throws I have ever witnessed. Another clutch play was a pass to Todd Heap over the middle of the field. Flacco weaved it into the hands of Heap to keep the game winning drive alive.
3.) Sweet Revenge Against Pittsburgh:
It was the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011. The Steelers were the hump the Ravens could not get over; they had just knocked Baltimore out of the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 years. The first game of the new season was a chance for revenge. The Ravens shellacked the Steelers 35-7. The game started off with a Joe Flacco touchdown to Anquan Boldin. Flacco was heavily criticized for the inability to beat Pittsburgh. The Ravens quarterback stepped up to the plate with 3 touchdown passes in the Baltimore pleasing beat down.
Later in the 2011 season, the Ravens and Steelers had a much closer battle. The Ravens had been leading the whole game but the Steelers took a late lead. It looked like the 2010 playoff loss over again. I remember a lump in my throat, thinking this can’t possibly happen again. Flacco delivered the miracle I was hoping for as a nervous Ravens fan. He drove 92 yards for the game winning touchdown. The brutal Pittsburgh crowd was stunned as Flacco had just finished his masterpiece.
2.) Beating Peyton in Denver:
The Broncos were considered Goliath the Ravens were considered David. The Ravens won a game very few gave them a chance to win. Flacco was incredible in the 2012 divisional game against the Broncos. He threw for 331 yards and 3 touchdowns in arguably the greatest game of all time. Flacco’s last second touchdown bomb to Jacoby Jones set brought the game to overtime. The Ravens won in double overtime.
1.) Clutch Leadership in Super Bowl XLVII:
The Ravens led wire to wire in an exciting 34-31 Super Bowl victory against the 49ers. The first drive of the game was concluded by a touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin. The biggest play of the game came late in the fourth quarter. On a 3rd and 1, Flacco called an audible. Instead of running the football, Joe elected to throw a back shoulder fade to Anquan Boldin. The reception led to a much needed field goal. Flacco went with his gut and showed the world he is Mr. Clutch.
